Wedding Dance Tips
Your wedding dance program will be tailored to your needs, desires and schedule.
A few things to consider in preparing for your wedding dance:
-
Don't wait until the last minute. Learning to dance will take time. Remember that your schedule will get very hectic as the wedding day approaches. We recommend starting to prepare four to six months earlier to allow time for practice, especially if you are a newcomer to dancing.
-
Wedding is in less than three months? Call us today! If you have left your first dance to the last minute, it is possible to learn a basic choreographed routine that will have you moving elegantly around the floor. In just a few lessons we can teach you the basics, a turn and a dip!
-
Your "wedding song..." If you have already chosen your wedding song, please bring a recording of it to your first lesson so that we can plan your lessons accordingly. If you haven't picked a song yet, don't worry! Bring a few song choices with you or ask your Wedding Dance Specialist to assist you with some popular options.
Be aware that not every wedding dance will be a Waltz. Most songs that couples bring into the studio range from being a Rumba (slow Latin) or Fox Trot, to even a sassy Swing or sexy Salsa or Bachata. All of these dances and many more, are applicable to the popular music played at most weddings today. Don't limit yourself to just one dance for that evening. Prepare with confidence for a variety of dances.
-
Be patient when learning to dance. Remember that dance lessons can actually be a great stress release. As time gets closer to the wedding, many couples have more stress in their lives than they have ever experienced. Dancing will pull you out of the hustle-and-bustle of the day as you have fun learning together. Even after the big day, many couples keep up with their lessons to provide them with a fun and relaxing date night.
-
Practice in the right shoes. Wear shoes that are similar to the ones you'll be wearing on the big day.
-
Be consistent with all of your appointments. The more often you come in, the less review there will be on each lesson and you will feel more prepared for your wedding.
-
Don't forget to co-ordinate with your wedding videographer to get the best "coverage" of your special dance. You'll need to talk to your DJ or wedding band so they don't cut your special dance short. They are used to most couples who can't dance so you'll find they quickly get other people onto the dance floor with you so you can "hide in the crowd."
